Cyberpunk: Fragments of a Hologram Rose

This short story has a numb tone to it. The flashbacks and descriptions of the world are very vivid and truly make me feel like I'm there, but when brought back to the current state of this world I feel almost empty and the whimsy and wonder of the past is gone. I guess that's how they wanted us to feel.
I feel like Parker misses how the world used to be (i feel him on that one) and how wide technology had expanded. Now, he is left in the rubble of what once was. He doesn't hate the world? But he is definitely not satisfied with how it's turned out. Kinda like if the beautiful national parks were replaced with cheap shopping centers, it's sort of that feeling.
