COVID-19 Vs. Zombies: A horror movie come true or a deadly virus with no happy ending.

COVID-19 (coronavirus) is one of the most lethal viruses to plague mankind in MASSIVE numbers since the Black Plague, with a devastating case number of 700,000 (as of March 29th), spanning over 6 continents, and killing 30% of those infected with it.

Sound familiar? Well, it should. Since the birth of horror cinema, the undead (zombies) has been one of the most popular sub-genre, with a wide fan-based spanning from video games (Resident Evil), Television (The Walking Dead), and the big one, Movies (Zombieland, The Dead Don't Die, Train to Busan, 28 Days Later, etc.). Zombies have played an important role in 'Geek Culture' over the years, making a 'normal guy' into the main protagonist (Zombieland, Shaun of The Dead) geeks felt that (with enough preparation watching these movies) they could rule over the mass army of the undead instantly. With t-shirts, bumper stickers, online forums, roleplay, conventions, haunted house themes, and even shops, the zombie fan-base is massive. So why aren't they psyched about COVID?

Reality. Zombies are 'fun' and 'entertaining' and even sometimes win the hearts of many (Warm Bodies), but they aren't real. It's a sci-fi world created to scare and entertain people. With my time of hanging around freaks and geeks (haha) I found that whenever something 'stupid' happened and made local or national news, a common phrase used was "We need a new plague." Well, here it is.

The sad fact is, people are dying. People are suffering in hospital beds, their homes, and even on the streets. Mass virus spread is not as fun as the TV shows and movies made them out to be, and while zombies are fun and scary and give you a rush, it's not real. People with COVID are being viewed and looked upon as zombies because of the culture surrounding zombies. But, they're not. They're people that are suffering and in excruciating pain. And we as a society (we live in a society) should be helping and controlling the spread in any way we can, washing hands, staying home, avoiding contact with others, and not going out. I know it sucks, but this is something that needs to be done in order to not only help ourselves but help others as well.
